Ulica Piwna Gdańsk

Ulica Piwna w Gdańsku to malownicza arteria, rozciągająca się od Bramy Chlebnickiej aż po brzeg Motławy. Przy jej końcu imponuje Wielka Zbrojownia, zbudowana na początku XVII wieku i obecnie przekształcona na miejsce handlu.

W czasach przedwojennych nosiła niemieckojęzyczną nazwę Jopengasse, nawiązującą do słynnego w Europie mocnego piwa jopejskiego. Jednym z znamienitych mieszkańców tej ulicy był architekt Jan Strakowski, żyjący na przełomie XVI i XVII wieku.

Historia ulicy Piwnej związana jest także z okresem nazistowskim. W latach 30. w budynkach numerowanych od 8 do 11 działał gdański gauleiter NSDAP, Albert Forster. Kamienica pod numerem 11 gościła samego Hitlera w dniu 19 września 1939 roku. Na elewacji budynku numer 11 znajdował się wówczas orzeł ze swastyką, będący symbolem NSDAP.

Współcześnie, od 2008 roku, ulica Piwna w sezonie turystycznym staje się deptakiem, wyłączonym z ruchu kołowego. W przeszłości funkcjonował tu także II Komisariat Policji, który przeniesiono na ulicę Długa Grobla w listopadzie 2017 roku.
